Visa Requirements

The rules surrounding getting a visa are quite complicated and they are often revised and updated. SIG experts will do the entire procedure for you in a way that you can rest assured that your application will be successfully approved.

On 31 March 2009, the immigration rules for students changed and became Tier 4 of the Points Based Immigration System. To be granted immigration permission as a general student your chosen college or university needs to have a Tier 4 sponsor license, and has a Trusted Status from the UKBA, that the course you want to do needs to be at a high enough level and you can satisfy strict financial requirements, and English language requirements.

Visa Application Process

Overseas applicants who are not citizens of the UK or European Union must obtain a student visa before they can enter the UK to study.

For a student visa application to be successful the applicant must demonstrate that they have been accepted by a recognised academic institution  and that they have enough money available at the time of the visa application to cover the tuition fees and living expenses for the first year of the course.

Applications are made in writing, using two application forms, one called a VAF9 PBS Migrant form and the other a PBS Appendix 8 General Student self assessment form.

Visa applications are decided on the basis of the information given on these forms and the supporting documents.

  1. SIG will applies for you to the Institution
  2. The Institution sends to SIG an acceptance letter.
  3. The student pays the first year’s tuition fees/or agreed deposit depending upon Institution.
  4. The Institution sends a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Study) to SIG together with detailed instructions and at the same time uploads information about the student onto the UK Border Agency’s database.
  5. SIG will copy the information from the CAS onto the PBS Appendix 8 form and attaches your original qualifications, together with a bank statement showing that you or your parents have had a minimum balance of £7,200 in your account for at least 28 days prior to the application.
  6. SIG will submit the forms and additional documents to your local British Embassy/High Commission.
