Services to Institutions

It is a fact that all Institutions have limited resources and must make choices regarding international activities, while balancing the outcomes in terms of increasing student recruitment targets and numbers. For many Institutions, international students are an important revenue contributor, an enhancement in the diversity of the student body and a means for the Institution to increase its global presence.

One of SIG’s main goals is to assist Institutions optimize their resources and obtain a good return for their investments regarding student recruitment. By cooperating with SIG, Institutions make more efficient use of limited resources, save time and money, build long term relationships in markets and increase their brand presence and enrolments. We are customer-focused with an exemplary track record as we have recruited over 1,200 students over the past 4 years and have significantly increased the revenue of our partner Institutions.

International Student Recruitment Strategy
We implement a value creating strategy that differentiates us within our competitive industry. Through our experience, commitment and determination, we manage to successfully match both the universities’ and students’ needs. We achieve this through short and long term planning with our partners and by developing an effective recruitment strategy, based upon key principles and activities. We focus on local expertise and experienced teams to carry out industry and market analysis. Furthermore, our personalized service and our people make us a valuable asset to our partners, clients and associates.

Actions to successfully Implement our Strategy
We take specific actions that continuously enhance our market presence and brand awareness. Through our established network, we provide a necessary flow of information for students, perform targeted marketing in several forms, promote and raise the profile of our partner Institutions, provide local market intelligence including an insight into prospective applicants’ perceptions of specific institutions. We ensure an excellent source of students, a higher number of applications and higher enrollment rates for our partner Universities.

Target Markets
We base the selection of our target markets on research that identifies a critical mass of quality students seeking further education outside their home country. It is more cost effective (i.e. recruitment cost/additional students) to generate additional demand from the countries we already have a presence (greater market penetration) than to “break into”/enter a new market.

Our role is essential in large and mature markets such as India and China and also in emerging markets such as Russia, former CIS, Pakistan, South East Asia, Middle-East, Nepal, Nigeria and Cameroon.

A major approach that we take in terms of student recruitment is to identify the student “journey” in terms of study selection, country, programme, Institution. We work with and target key influencers who can direct key messages to potential students during key stages of the “journey”.

We focus on three main groups:

  • Mainly International Students seeking programmes, such as Foundation, Undergraduate, Post Graduate.
  • Students seeking entry through progression routes and prior accredited learning routes. There is a large market of students who are studying on 2-3 year Diploma programmes, in either their own country or in another (such as Cyprus), and want to enter a degree programme or a ‘top-up programme’ that can convert their Diploma into a Degree, or top-up their Masters to an MBA for example.
  • Students wishing to study at higher levels, especially focusing on research opportunities or “taught and research” programmes. This is a growing trend from mature markets (China for example).

Conversion Activities
Conversion activities are the activities SIG uses to encourage students to accept the offer of admission. Our officers are trained to influence students using several activities including face to face counseling, mail-outs of print publications, text messages, emails, phone calls, publicity campaigns, use of social media, newspaper articles, TV shows and online presentations such as webinars, adverts and seminars. We also encourage the Institution to have a live web presentation, such as a webinar or via SKYPE, with students who have an offer or are considering an application.

Matching of student needs with University programmes
We carry out a matching evaluation in terms of programmes offered by an Institution and those of interest to potential students (and governments, if applicable). Our experts guide the student to select matching programs and, as a result, both the student and the Institution are satisfied.

Furthermore, if desired by the Institution, SIG will also promote key subject areas in order to attract international students and to enhance the University’s enrolments in particular subject areas. From our experience, we have seen that students who are uncertain about their areas of study extremely value SIG’s opinion and advice.

Our overseas offices
Through our network of partners we are able to provide a full local office for an Institution that covers either the whole country or a region within a country. This allows an institution to take full advantage of its market opportunities in both established markets and in emerging/developing markets, expand its brand and presence and increase student recruitment via both the main country office and also the linked sub offices.

SIG’s offices are responsible for promoting partner institutions by performing several marketing activities including the following:

  • Marketing representatives and counselors visit schools and colleges on a regular basis.
  • Professional counselors are always available to provide personalized service and help students throughout the application process.
  • SIG differentiates in educational fairs and exhibitions because, apart from the stand, it also offers pre-event support, focused events during the period of the fair/exhibition and after-event follow up. This service can be exclusive or non-exclusive for an Institution depending on its needs.
  • Our counselors guide the students towards specific programmes offered by our partner institutions based on students’ needs.

Partnership agreements
We have the experience and also the network to assist Institutions who are seeking partnerships overseas, either to set up agreements with other Institutions in areas such as transfer progression agreement, student exchange, off site delivery, joint/dual programmes.
